A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a person appointed by the court to represent the best interest of the children. The GAL investigates the parenting situation and the reports to the court, making a final custody and/or parenting plan recommendation. GAL's involved in an action where substance, mental and/or physical abuse is involved will have the authority to speak with treatment providers, teachers, relatives, CPS, as well as others with knowledge about the parents. Our Guardian ad Litem has over fifteen years experience as a family law investigator, including work as a Washington State Licensed Private Investigator, Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children, Foster Care Licensed Home provider and Domestic Violence Advocate Counselor. Our Guardian ad Litem has experience working with incarcerated individuals convicted of family and sexual abuse and is trained in verbal interventions, assault avoidance and certified in Level I Defensive Tactics and Self-Defense. Our Guardian ad Litem accepts cases involving physical, mental and/or sexual abuse and makes her recommendations based on intense investigation and personal observation. All court recommendations are keeping with the Parenting Act and based on firsthand knowledge, not hearsay.
